X (Twitter)

Share your posts on X with AI-crafted tweets.

X (Twitter)

Hot Metal can post a tweet to your X account when you publish a blog post. The AI generates a tweet from your draft, you can edit it to your liking, and it goes out alongside your blog publish.

Prerequisites

Before you can share to X, you need to connect your X account. Go to Settings > Social Connections and follow the prompts to authorize Hot Metal. Once connected, the X section in the Publish modal becomes active.

If your account is not connected, you will see a “Connect in Settings” note next to the X option.

Enabling X sharing

In the Publish modal, you will see the X card. Click the card or check the checkbox to enable X sharing. The card expands to show the tweet editor.

AI-generated tweet

As soon as you toggle X sharing on, Hot Metal automatically generates a tweet from your draft using AI. You will see a loading indicator while the AI works. The generated tweet is designed to be engaging and concise, drawing from your draft’s hook and key points.

An AI badge appears next to the “Tweet text” label when the text was generated by AI.

Editing your tweet

You can edit the tweet text freely in the text area. Once you make manual changes, the AI will not overwrite your edits. The text area is yours to customize however you want.

If you want a fresh AI-generated tweet after making edits, you can toggle X sharing off and back on to trigger a new generation.

Character counter

A character counter appears in the top-right corner of the text area showing your current count out of the 280-character maximum. The counter accounts for X’s t.co link shortening — all URLs count as 23 characters regardless of their actual length. The count also includes the blog post link that Hot Metal automatically appends to your tweet.

If you exceed 280 characters, the counter turns red and a warning appears. You will need to shorten the text before publishing.

Hot Metal automatically appends a link to your published blog post at the end of the tweet. You do not need to add it yourself — the link is included when the tweet is sent. A note below the text area reminds you: “Link to your blog post will be included.”

How publishing works

When you click Publish (or Update), your tweet is sent alongside your blog publish. The modal shows you the result of each destination after publishing. You will see a success message like “Posted on X” in the confirmation banner, or an error message if something went wrong.
