Social Connections

Hot Metal can publish directly to your social media accounts when you publish a blog post. Before you can use this feature, you need to connect at least one social account.

Supported platforms

Hot Metal currently supports two platforms:

• LinkedIn — Share posts directly to your LinkedIn profile.
• X (Twitter) — Post a tweet with a link to your published blog post.

You can connect one account per platform.

Connecting an account

1. Go to Settings and scroll down to the Connections section.
2. Find the platform you want to connect (LinkedIn or X).
3. Click Connect.
4. You will be redirected to the platform’s authorization page. Sign in if prompted, then approve access for Hot Metal.
5. After you authorize, you will be redirected back to Settings. A success message confirms the connection.

Once connected, you will see:

• LinkedIn: Your connected account name and token expiry information.
• X: Your connected @username and token expiry information.

A green dot next to the platform name indicates an active connection.

Disconnecting an account

1. Go to Settings > Connections.
2. Click Disconnect next to the account you want to remove.
3. A confirmation modal will appear. Click Disconnect to confirm.

After disconnecting, you will not be able to publish to that platform until you reconnect.

Token refresh

OAuth tokens refresh automatically in the background, so you generally do not need to worry about them expiring. The token expiry information shown on each connection card is for informational purposes — if a token is about to expire and cannot be refreshed, Hot Metal will prompt you to reconnect.

Using social connections when publishing

Once your accounts are connected, the Publish modal will let you choose which platforms to post to when you publish a blog post. If no accounts are connected, the social publishing options will not be available.
