Plans & Billing

Hot Metal offers three plans so you can pick the level that fits your content workflow. Start free, and upgrade whenever you need more capacity.

Upgrading to Growth

You can upgrade from Creator to Growth in two ways:

  1. From Settings — Go to Settings > Plan & Billing and click Upgrade to Growth.
  2. From an upgrade prompt — Whenever you hit a Creator-tier limit (for example, trying to create a fourth topic), Hot Metal will show an upgrade prompt. Click Upgrade to continue.

Either path opens the pricing view, where you can toggle between Monthly and Yearly billing. When you’re ready, click Start Growth Plan and complete checkout through Paddle. Your upgrade takes effect immediately.

Managing your billing

Once you have an active Growth subscription, go to Settings > Plan & Billing. You will see your current plan name, status badge, and next billing date.

Click Manage Billing to open the Paddle customer portal, where you can:

  • Update your payment method
  • View and download invoices
  • Change your billing address

Paddle handles all billing, invoicing, and tax compliance. It accepts major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and various local payment methods depending on your region.

Plan status badges

Your plan card in Settings displays a status badge so you always know where things stand:

BadgeMeaning
ActiveYour subscription is current and in good standing.
TrialYou are on a free trial of the Growth plan.
CanceledYou canceled, but you still have access until the end of your current billing period. The badge shows the exact date your access ends.
Past DueA payment failed. Update your payment method in the Paddle portal to avoid interruption.
PausedYour subscription is paused. Resume it from the Paddle portal.

Canceling your subscription

If you decide Growth is not for you, go to Settings > Plan & Billing and click Cancel Plan. A confirmation modal will explain what happens next:

  • Your subscription stays active until the end of the current billing period.
  • After that, your account reverts to the free Creator plan.
  • Your content is never deleted, but some features may be limited by the Creator-tier caps (for example, only 3 topics per publication).

Click Cancel Plan in the modal to confirm, or Keep Plan if you change your mind.
